Artiste Cake Box

Happy Sunday! I hope you have all had a great holiday weekend :)

My project for today goes along with the little tea light cake that I made on THIS post. I said before that I was inspired by the cake made by Bren Yule, and she had made a box for her cake. So I decided that I really needed a box for mine, too! I wasn't sure how she made hers, so here is what I came up with.

I found this cute little box on page 60 of the booklet, and think it's just perfect for the little cake! I cut it out at 2 1/4" from Clementine paper, and inked it with Sorbet. I used the zip strip border as an accent around the box.

To dress up the top, I cut out the flower (Accent 2/Shift) from page 54 at 2". I also cut out the leaves (3D object/shift) at 3/4". I used the CTMH Quilling tool to make it super easy to roll the flower up! I glued the flower and added a pearl to the center with Liquid Glass. I really think it's the best adhesive for these flowers.

Then I cut out a banner from page 58 at 3/4". I inked this colonial white banner with Champagne and Sorbet inks, then stamped Happy Birthday on it in Sorbet.

I attached the banner with 3-D Foam tape, and added some bitty pearls for interest. The front flap is shut by a small magnet, and I added a pearl badge button to the outside of the flap.

Here is the box with the little cake in it!

Happy Crafting!

  2. Great photos and explantations of the cuts. I'm guessing I would need a 12 inch x 12 inch mat to cut this box? I only have the 6x12 machine. Can you tell me the length & width measurements of the flat box before it was assembled? Love your projects!

    1. Thanks, Cathy! You can see the box laid out on the mat in the 3rd picture, and the grid marks show it to be about 9 1/2" by 7". You would have to use the 12 x 12 in that case. You can still cut a box, but it would be tiny :)

    2. drats, that is what I was afraid of. Sometimes I can get a cut to work by using my Gypsy, but I don't think that will work this time. I'll have to think about getting the bigger machine... I appreciate your response - I always look forward to your creations and wonderful directions! Thanks so much!
